KP - Easy Aran for Babies, Toddlers, and Kids

Every child - boy or girl - needs an Aran style sweater in their wardrobe. This design will fit boys and girls and it is sized for from babies to larger children (up to about 9 years old, depending on the size of the child). It makes a lovely sweater to pass through a family.

Knitting a cabled Aran sweater is a right of passage for most knitters. This design is perfect if you are a beginner or even a more advanced knitter. The cable pattern is easy to follow and memorize. The design knits up at a quick-to-knit gauge and has very little shaping - at the underarms and front neckline. The tiny details including the rolled edge and the button band closure add a special touch to a basic pullover. I’ve included both written out cable instructions and charted instructions. Use whichever set you are most comfortable with.

There are 2 cables to master - a simple cable which repeats over 6 rows and a braid cable which repeats over 12 rows. Once you get the hang of the cable pattern, you will realize there are 5 rows where you are simply working the stitches as they appear.

Skill Level: For beginning and intermediate knitters; uses double pointed needles; includes 15 illustrations, 21 project photographs, and 29 charts. Also includes a bonus Fair Isle Technique and Tips article, plus instructions for how to design your own stockings.

Sizes: Small (Medium, Large, Extra Large). Finished Width: 20 (24, 28, 32)”.
Shown in size Medium on Emersen who is 3 1/2 years old and size Small on Marlee who is 7 months. In order to determine size to knit, I suggest measuring a favorite sweatshirt of the child. From my experience as a mom, if you knit the size Medium for a toddler, the child will get several years of wear from it.
